The Billerica Memorial High School will serve 1,620 students and accommodate grades 8-12, demanding a sensitivity to diverse age groups that share core spaces. The school is organized into small academic clusters, each with their own interdisciplinary learning space. These daylit, two-story spaces are surrounded by flexible classrooms that accommodate the needs of a variety of academic disciplines, thus creating flexibility while supporting interdisciplinary learning. Overall, the design helps to create a campus with more student-to-student and student-to-teacher interaction and the flexibility to accommodate new and future styles of learning. The highly sustainable building is tracking LEED Gold and meets the 2030 Challenge requirements for reduced lighting power density.
